Cleveland, Ohio, February 25, 2022

Moonlight and Lighthouses have a lot in common and this summer the Moonlight Serenaders Big Band will shine the spotlight on the Marblehead Lighthouse Bicentennial Celebration. Kicking off a full summer of special concerts, events and activities calendar created by the Marblehead Lighthouse Historical Society, the Marblehead Lighthouse will become the beacon of light and showplace for fabulous memorable music for the entire region.

The Moonlight Serenaders is Northeast Ohio’s longest continuously performing professional big band with over seventy years of providing the best big band sound around. The band will begin the summer festivities on June 18th with LIVE Big Band music of the 1930s through the ’60s. Musical favorites will cross multiple generations and musical tastes, providing something for everyone. The band’s second performance on August 6th recognizes
National Lighthouse Day with a military tribute themed performance.

ABOUT the LIGHTHOUSE:
“Lighting the Way, 200 years 1822-2022” is the organization’s theme and logo for this celebration. The Marblehead Lighthouse was first lighted on June 23 rd of 1821 and is the oldest lighthouse in continuous service on all of the Great Lakes. In 1998 the U.S. Coast Guard turned the lighthouse property over to the State of Ohio to become its 73 rd State Park. Many additions and changes have been made in the past 200 years, most recently a $200,000 renovation of the tower by the State of Ohio which was completed in the spring of 2021. An authentic replica of the 1876 U. S. Lifesaving Station, which stood in Marblehead, was opened in 2016 and a new restroom facility and greatly expanded parking were completed in 2022.

The Lighthouse has over 20,000 visitors each summer, many climb the 77 steps to the top and it is one of the most frequently photographed buildings in Ohio. It’s estimated that over 1 million visitors enter the park each year. The Marblehead Lighthouse Historical Society provides volunteers who staff the park buildings and the Society has provided the private funding for the construction of the new restroom building and the U. S. Lifesaving Station Museum.
